Black Diamond Dhërmi: A Collaboration Between CEBRA and Our Studio

Designing a New Landmark on the Albanian Riviera

Set against the dramatic landscape of Dhërmi and overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea, Black Diamond represents a vision for contemporary hospitality architecture that is deeply connected to its environment. Developed through a collaboration between our studio and the internationally renowned Danish architecture firm CEBRA, the project explores how modern design can coexist with the unique character of the Albanian Riviera.

Although currently in the design phase and yet to be constructed, Black Diamond embodies a forward-thinking approach to architecture, where landscape, experience, and sustainability are considered from the earliest stages of the project. The collaboration brought together local knowledge of the site and context with CEBRA’s internationally recognized expertise in creating innovative and experiential architecture.

Inspired by the Landscape

The concept for Black Diamond emerged from a careful study of Dhërmi’s topography, climate, and natural beauty. Rather than competing with the surrounding environment, the architecture was envisioned as an extension of the landscape itself. The project’s geometry, material palette, and spatial organization are designed to respond to the terrain, creating a seamless relationship between built form and nature.

Large openings frame panoramic views of the sea, while terraces, outdoor living spaces, and carefully integrated landscape elements blur the boundary between interior and exterior environments. Every design decision was guided by the desire to maximize the experience of the site while maintaining a respectful presence within the natural setting.

A Shared Design Vision

The partnership with CEBRA was driven by a common ambition: to create a destination that reflects both international design excellence and the authentic identity of the Albanian coast. Through an intensive collaborative process, the project evolved into a refined architectural proposal that balances contemporary aesthetics with functionality, comfort, and environmental sensitivity.

The design emphasizes clean lines, sculptural forms, and a strong connection to natural light. At the same time, it seeks to create memorable spatial experiences that encourage visitors to engage with the surrounding landscape and enjoy the unique atmosphere of Dhërmi.

Looking Toward the Future

While Black Diamond remains an unbuilt project, it represents an important exploration of what the future of hospitality architecture on the Albanian Riviera can become. The proposal demonstrates how thoughtful collaboration, contextual design, and innovative architectural thinking can generate projects that are both visually striking and deeply rooted in place.

As Albania continues to emerge as one of the Mediterranean’s most exciting destinations, projects such as Black Diamond illustrate the potential for architecture to contribute positively to the region’s cultural, environmental, and tourism development.

Black Diamond is more than a design proposal—it is a vision for a new way of experiencing the Albanian coast, where architecture, landscape, and lifestyle come together to create something truly unique.
